Peter Gabriel (feat. Kate Bush) Don’t Give Up
…and now a sappy story for the new year. So years ago, before I even owned a record player, I purchased Peter Gabriel’s “So” on vinyl. I guess I bought it because I really liked sledgehammer at the time? I dunno I was probably 17. Anyway I grew embarrassed of Peter’s face staring at my sullenly, just wondering when I was going to get a turntable, so I hid him in the far reaches of my closet. Years later (and now in possession of two record players) having been armed with an intense appreciation for the music of Kate Bush, I realized that she and Peter Gabriel have a duet that is the 3rd track on “So”. (thanks to the Parenthetical Girls cover for alerting me to this fact) …
SO you see that I was meant to purchase that album, it just happened too early in my timeline. It now gives me my first physical recording of Kate Bush. Also it is a really uplifting song in all this blah blah blah fallout of 2011. So here’s to the new year, don’t give up because maybe the pieces you’ve collected that don’t make sense will fall together in the coming months.
